Finnish Stars with Jam Recipe
Tender, delicious and very simple puffs with prune filling. Aurel Bronte writes that in the traditional recipe, the dough is quite complicated, so at Christmas most people cook it together with their children from purchased puff pastry.

  1. For the filling, mix the prunes, sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan, pour water so that the contents are slightly covered. Bring to a low boil and cook for about 20 minutes, until the prunes are tender.
  2. Peel (optional) and cool.
  3. Preheat the oven to 175°C. Cover the baking sheet with baking paper. Cut the dough into 15 squares measuring 6×6 cm. Make diagonal incisions on each square from the corner to the middle, leaving 1 cm in the center. Using a brush, brush each square with beaten egg, then put 1 tsp of filling in the center.
  4. Wrap one end of the dough in the middle, repeat with the other ends to get an asterisk.
  5. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the stars are completely cooked (they should turn golden and rise).
  6. Let them cool down a little, then sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
