Side Dish of Baked Sweet Potatoes Recipe
Do you cook hot dishes for the new year? Or maybe you are planning a festive lunch on January 1st? I suggest as a side dish to cook sweet potatoes, diced and baked in the oven. It looks like fried sweet potatoes and crunches almost as well. However, this side dish has an important difference from the popular fast food – it is baked in the oven, which means it is much healthier.

  1. Prepare the ingredients and a large baking tray and turn on the oven so that it heats up to 205°C. You can take any spices to taste, and replace fresh thyme with dried. I will cut sweet potatoes using a food processor, it has a function “slicing French fries”.
  2. I peeled the sweet potatoes and cut them in half lengthwise so that the tubers fit easily into the loading hole.
  3. The combine coped with the task in less than 1 minute at a speed of “1”. The photo shows that in addition to the bars, there are small pieces that are not suitable for making this side dish. Therefore, I have an improvised second course, which I will tell you about in parallel with the main recipe.
  4. Transfer the sweet potatoes to a bowl of cold water and leave for 30 minutes. This procedure will make the sweet potatoes even more crispy.
  5. Now we throw the sweet potatoes on a sieve to drain the water. Next, I chose large blocks, put them on a paper towel to remove the remaining moisture. And in small pieces we lay out in portion forms for baking.
  6. Put the prepared sweet potato cubes in a deep bowl, add vegetable oil, starch, spice mixture and salt.
  7. Mix everything with your hands so that each piece of sweet potato is covered with starch and spices, and then put the bars in one layer on a baking sheet covered with baking parchment. Sprinkle thyme sprigs on top. Send the sweet potatoes to bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, lay out the sweet potatoes and return it back for another 15 minutes. The baking time may vary depending on the characteristics of the oven and the size of the sweet potato bars.
  8. While the sweet potato side dish is being prepared, I will return to my impromptu: small pieces of sweet potatoes are already laid out in two serving molds. Then I made a white Roux sauce from flour, butter and milk. I generously salted this sauce, seasoned it to taste with pepper and nutmeg, and then poured it into molds with sweet potatoes. On top I added finely chopped smoked sausages and grated everything with cheese. I sent the molds with the future casserole into the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  9. And that’s what I got: a casserole without proportions, where everything is to taste.
  10. Tender sweet sweet potato with the taste of smoked sausage and crispy cheese crust.
