Cut into thin slices. The weight of the pulp without the skin is 400-450 grams.
Cut the bread if it is dry. Or put it in a bag and mash it with a rolling pin, if it is completely stale. You should get large crumbs of different sizes.
In a preheated frying pan, melt the butter (you can drop a little vegetable oil so that it does not burn), lightly fry the chopped garlic. Send to it the bread crumbs, mix well. Cook for a couple of minutes over low heat.
Grease the baking dish with butter, put several layers of pumpkin. Season with salt and pepper.
Spread half of the bread with garlic over the pumpkin. Sprinkle with thyme.
Then a layer of grated cheese.
Repeat the layers of pumpkin, thyme, layer of bread and layer of cheese. Pour all the milk.
