- Season the salad with salt and pepper. You can use any pepper you like. I like to add freshly ground pepper to the mixture. Add finely chopped garlic. Be guided by your taste, but there should not be a lot of garlic, it should give not so much sharpness as piquancy. Season the salad with olive oil and sprinkle with balsamic vinegar to taste.
