Meatballs with Spicy Fruit Sauce Recipe
Meatballs can be prepared in advance, and before serving, pour the sauce and warm up in a preheated oven for 5-8 minutes. Very tasty sauce! It smells of orange, vanilla and nutmeg. I doubted whether it was worth adding vanilla, but I added it and did not lose. I didn't boil the sauce, just brought it to a boil, and then poured it over the meatballs.

Ingredients
For meatballs:
- 400 gram Minced meat pork+beef
- 1 piece Onion
- 150 gram Breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon Ketchup
- 0,5 teaspoon Seasoning (for meat)
- 2 tablespoons Flour wheat / Flour
- 1 tablespoon Sunflower oil
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil
- Greens to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Salt to taste
For the sauce:
- 140 gram Cranberries I can frozen
- 3 tablespoons Ketchup
- 1 piece Orange
- 100 gram Sugar or to taste
- 1 pinch Nutmeg
- 1 pinch Vanilin
- 1 tablespoon Orange zest
- 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Peel and finely chop the onion.
- Put the minced meat in the bowl of a blender and add the onion, chop.
- After grinding, the minced meat will become much softer and tastier, and you will not see onions.
- Beat the chicken egg lightly with a fork.
- Add minced meat, ketchup, seasoning, salt and pepper to the egg mixture, mix well.
- Preheat the oven to 175 °C. Cover the baking sheet with parchment or silicone mat, lubricate with sunflower oil. Add breadcrumbs to the meat mixture in small portions (1 tablespoon each).
- We get a thick, "dense" dough, slightly sticky to the hands. Let the dough brew a little (10 minutes) and roll in breadcrumbs. The dough will turn out even "denser". Therefore, do not clog the dough with extra breadcrumbs.
- With a wet spoon, form small meatballs (16 pieces). Roll the meatballs in flour. It is very good to take and shape the dough with a silicone spatula.
- Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil or grease with silicone. Send the baking sheet with the blanks to the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are ready.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the sauce. Grate the orange peel on a medium grater and squeeze out the orange juice.
- Frozen cranberries are washed with running water. Then put the cranberries in a blender bowl, add sugar and grind until smooth.
- After grinding, the cranberries are passed through a sieve. I'm not.
- In a small saucepan (1 liter), put the cranberries with sugar. Add the juice of 1 orange, 1 tbsp olive oil, tomato ketchup, 1 tbsp zest, a pinch of vanilla and a pinch of nutmeg, salt. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally. Bring the sauce to a boil and remove from the heat. Do not boil the sauce, it will lose both taste and color.
- Take 2 portion baking pans and brush with vegetable oil.
- Transfer the meatballs to a platter and pour the sauce on top.
- Before serving, preheat the dish in a preheated 180 C oven for 5-10 minutes and serve, garnished with herbs.
