- When the potatoes are ready, drain the water. Pour the milk into a glass and send it to the microwave for 2 minutes to boil. Add boiled milk and butter to the pot with potatoes. I always cook mashed potatoes only with a mixer, so it turns out very tender, airy and homogeneous (like cream). This method eliminates the presence of lumps in the puree.
