The fern is collected in the spring, while the young shoots have not yet blossomed into full-fledged leaves. Since spring, I have 0.5 kg of boiled and frozen ostrich fern left in the freezer.
Peel the potatoes, cut into pieces, put them in a frying pan. Pour water 5 cm above the potatoes. Cook until tender, about 20 minutes.
We sort out the fern from the forest garbage, mine. Toss into a pot of boiling water. Cook for 3-5 minutes after boiling. We throw it into a colander, but for now we set it aside.
Cut the onion into small cubes. Fry in butter until golden brown. Add flour and fry too. Pour in a ladle of "broth" from under the potatoes, mix very thoroughly.
Mashed potatoes. Add milk, fried onion and bring to a boil.
Season with salt and pepper, add garlic powder and boiled fern. Stir and bring to a boil again.
