- Next, prepare the broth, or salted boiling water. Then lay the cast iron layers: Vegetable oil, 1/3 onion, 1/3 carrot, 1/3 cabbage, 1/2 buckwheat and so on... The last layer is cabbage. After each layer of buckwheat I put a small leaf of Lavrushka and 3 peas of pepper. Pour the broth, or salted water. Cover tightly with a lid and put on maximum heat for 15 minutes. After that, open the lid, add spices to taste, mix. Put on a minimum fire and simmer until tender. About 20 min. if necessary, add water... P.S Do not open the cover for the first 15 minutes. Just warning you that porridge turns out a lot! About half a 5L pot. But we love her very much!
